Picking a Grandmother Name

As I mentioned in my previous post, I will be a first-time grandmother in February. I'm not so sure I want to be called grandma. I would love some help in picking out my grandma name. The two I have been thinking on are Gigi and Mimi. Which one do you like better? Do you have any other suggestions? And what do you think about being called Grandma? Does it sound too old? Or do you like it?

  1. Good Morning! Being a grandma is pretty special. I prefer Mimi only because I dislike the musical Gigi. Around here, we're Grandma Cindy and Grandpa John. Our grandchildren and nieces and nephews created some of their own nicknames, tho, so be warned. LOL

  2. Hi Trudy. Always a delight hearing from you. :-). I mis-read your prior post thinking you were ALREADY a grandma...sorry! I'm not good with names. I tend to like traditional Bible names. :-) I don't blame you one bit for adding the verification feature to your comments. I noticed many bloggers I subscribe to have done so recently. I added it myself a few months back cause one never knows when someone may try to spam you.

BTW: I tried to add the "LinkWithin" widget several times over the last week. I keep getting error messages. The widget page never comes up. LinkWithin shows the old format. Blogger changes its format periodically so that old format that LinkWithin shows never appeared on my blog.

Remember, don't stress or worry about not being able to blog like you want. Our blogs are our own and there's no set anything as to when has to or not have to blog. :-). It's amazing that you've been able to blog over the years with your family, homeschooling and other obligations

May the LORD bless you and your family. :-)

  3. I go by Grandma and love being called that. My nickname when I was younger was Mimi so that would be my choice.

I don't blame you for adding the verification. It can be such a pain, but if it eliminates the spam I guess it is worth it. I have ticked off the box that does not allow anonomyous bloggers on my blog and than seems to keep my spam at a minimum.

  4. I don't really have a preference on either one. You need to pick a name that fits your personality. I called my grandmother Nannie so I love that. I am so happy that you are going to be a grandma. All the best to you and your family.

  7. Hi Trudy, my grandchildren call me Gigi. It stands for Grandma Gita. It was very easy for them to say even when they were very young. Now adults call me Gigi also.

  8. Well, I'm Nana. In our family G.G is for Great Grandmother so that's my mother. The OTHER grandma took MiMi which was my first choice. sad. But, I like Nana. It was also the name of the big shaggy dog in the nursery in Peter Pan. :) Grandson is two and we have a lot of fun with Banana and Nana!

  11. IMO, the kids pick what they will call you. You can certainly guide them, but things have a way of working out. My parents are Papa and Grinny, and my inlaws are Grandma and Grumpy. All are perfect for the person and, with the exception of Grumpy (which is quite ironic), none were names they chose themselves. My parents started out wanting to be called G-Pa and Granny-J. It's so cool to be a grandma and have that special relationship with your grandchildren. Congratulations and good luck.

  12. Just ran across your blog - Love it! Thought I would share - I wanted to be Mimi but when the first grand child called me he said MawMaw and it stuck! But friends of ours are Lolli and Pop so the kids can visit with Lollipop! Cute huh?
