For Sundress No. 5, I decided to also make one for Miss 8's best friend's birthday. I thought they would enjoy having a matching outfit. They are even wearing matching shoes. They have been friends since they were born, literally. Miss 8's friend is three months older. Their oldest sisters, who are both in college now, have been friends since they were crawling babies, too. And Mr. 6 has been friends with her brother since he was a baby. My youngest is 17 months, and they don't have anyone for him. These friendships have been very special as you can well imagine.
The girls have been having a fun summer together. Each week on Wednesdays they switch off going to each other's home to spend all day, sleep over, and then most of the next day; and sometimes they manage to get to sleep over another night. So they have been seeing a lot of each other lately. I know when school starts they will be so busy studying. We'll have to see if we can arrange some play dates during the school year, probably on the weekends. They both homeschool, but there is still lots to do and learn.
We have been sharing the love of sewing with Miss 8's friend. Last year for her birthday, we gave her a little sewing box with notions and some pretty fabric and taught her how to sew a pillow. This year for her birthday we gave her this dress as well as an interesting jar from India full of pretty buttons. She has come over and done some sewing with my children. You can see pictures of them sewing together and the projects that they have made if you go to Miss 8's sewing blog.
A Novel Idea

This was one of those last minute sewing projects as the Summer weather was
threatening to disappear but I felt the need to make just one more
sundress. ...

Hi Trudy. Just went I think one sundress is my favorite. These are very precious pictures of your daughter and her friend. It is a blessing in this day and time for children (let alone, anyone) to remain friends for so long since Americans generally move alot! I like the colors, too. I have to check Emily's blog.
ReplyDeleteVery Nice dresses! The girls look gorgeous in them.
ReplyDeleteWhat precious pictures! I hope those two sweet girls will be friends for life. The little sundresses are so cute on them. I think you are just wonderful to inspire a love of sewing in your daughter's friend. Have a blessed week!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet, Trudy! Thank you for sharing these lovely photos! I remember, as a little girl, being so happy the winter that my best friend and I had the same winter coat (same color and style) as each other. Everyone at recess called us the "twins," and we couldn't have been happier about that. What a special time in your daughter's life, and what a special friend!
ReplyDeleteNice post!
ReplyDeleteNow a days lot of designs have arrived in to men & womens fashion style. But one of the key items every men & woman should have is a pair of jeans that flatters your figure and can be dressed up or down.
Very sweet dresses and what great photos of two loving friends. That is so special! :)
ReplyDeleteCute pictures! I love the one where they are playing "Oh Little Playmate." Brings back memories.
ReplyDeleteI remember having matching outfits with my best friend Diana, when I was little. It was so much fun! I remember they were sundresses with a appliqued dachshund going around the hem. We also had matching swimsuits with cute little buttons. Found one in my button box the other day. So you see, you're making some powerful memories. That was over 45 years ago!
